Crew noticed that the damage to the hull was allowing more water to enter and efforts were made to plug the hole with available material.

While continuing to use the pump the vessel was pulled by the crew to the harbour wall and shallower water were it could not sink. The vessel was made safe so that others could recover from that point.

No further assistance required the crew returned by road.

On route it was reported by the Coastguard that the skipper had made his way to the Lifeboat station. With the ILB almost on scene, it was asked if the crew could assess the creel boat on the rising tide.

The crew were able to float the boat off the skellies, walk it to deeper water and then tow it back to Anstruther harbour.

Because of the poor visibility and worsening weather situation, the ALB crew (on station from the launch) were request by the helm to remain on stand by in case assistance was required during the tow back to Anstruther.

ALB not required to launch

In the harbour it was discovered that the possible reason for the casualty grounding was that it was fanned up with rope and would therefore have lost power. The rope was removed from the propeller before mooring.
