off
Fifeness.
Crew paged.
1057 ALB launched from carriage to procced. Both divers recovered from
water by creel
boat NORLAND WIND who made best speed
towards Anstruther.
1113 ALB and NORLAND WIND rendezvous south of Crail.
1120 Both casualties transferred to ALB. Oxygen administered to one (female)
casualty who
was in early stages of hypothermia,
exhausted and previously vomiting. Ambulance
requested to attend at Anstruther.
Coastguard response team en route.
1132 ALB reports ETA Anstruther 1147. Ambulances on scene at boathouse.
1145 ALB alongside West Pier, Anstruther. Ambulance paramedics and coastguard
mobile
in attendance. Helicopter assistance
requested post consultation with dive doctor at
Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (via
radio link and mobile phone).
1215 Casualties transferred to ambulance after assessment by paramedic
aboard lifeboat.
1240 ALB moored to East Pier. Crew dispersed pending later rehousing.
Casualties in transit by ambulance
to local school playing field to await arrival of
helicopter (Rescue 177 from RNAS
Gannet, Prestwick) and subsequent transfer to
Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
1800 Crew re-mustered in boathouse prior to rehousing.
1845 ALB back at slipway.
1912 ALB rehoused and ready for service.
NOTE: By chance, the divers' predicament was observed in time by persons
at the scene.
There was no contact left ashore
to monitor the diving activities.

persons aboard. Departed Crail harbour in
fog and became disorientated and lost.
Launch agreed immediately. Crew paged.
1947 ALB launched from carriage. Tide 2/3 ebb .
1950 MRSC passes search datum position (56-12.37N 002-37.13W; NW of May Island)
to
ALB. Jet ski has been alongside F/V Ocean
Herald and given course for Crail.
Disappeared into fog and not seen again.
2000 Jet ski in contact by mobile phone with MRSC. Asked to listen for lifeboat
fog signal.
2009 Casualty reports to MRSC by mobile phone that he hears ALB fog signal.
Contact
with sound subsequently lost.
2017 ALB steams back to position where fog signal was first reported heard.
2023 Casualty hears fog signal again.
2024 ALB reports radar target 0.5 NM distant.
2026 Casualty reports ALB fog signal louder now.
2031 ALB reports casualty visual, 100 yards ahead.
2032 ALB confirms alongside casualty (2.4 NM from Anstruther, 4.5NM fromCrail).
Two persons subsequently taken aboardALB.
Third person remained aboard ski to
follow ALB (closely) back to Anstruther
harbour. All persons medically OK.
2100 ALB and casualty safely secured in Anstruther harbour.
2115 ALB crew dispersed. Later rehouse due tide constraints.
2350 ALB crew re-mustered in boathouse.
0030 ALB back at slipway.
0056 ALB rehoused and ready for service.
NOTE Absence of Marine VHF radio aboard casualty made this search
more difficult.
Mobile phone signals cannot
be homed in on by lifeboat DF equipment. A number of
slow moving fishing vessels in the
area (with gear down) also compounded the
difficulty of identifying the
casualty by radar, initially.

1753 ALB alongside KERRY MARIE off Kinkell Ness. Position further NW than
previously
indicated by casualty.
1755 Casualty in tow.
1819 Casualty alongside St Andrews harbour. Coastguard mobile team assisted.
ALB
returning to base.
1920 ALB entered home port.
1952 ALB rehoused and ready for service.

vessel (2 pob)
with fouled propeller, off Kingsbarns. Immediate
launch agreed. In view of weather conditions,
no one else suitable available to assist.
0905 Crew paged.
0917 ALB launched from carriage at harbour entrance.
0956 ALB alongside casualty. Tow established. VHF portable transferred locked
on CH 67 to
facilitate comms.
1010 ALB has casualty in tow, speed 5 KT, bound St Andrews, the vessel'shome
port, taking
advantage of the lee of the land in view ofstrong
WSW wind.
1027 - 1039 Crew member of casualty taken ill.
ALB shortened tow and drew alongside. Coxswain
and ALB crew member (both first aiders)
transferred to casualty along with first aid kit
and oxygen. First aid administered. Coxswain
decides to continue tow at best speed for St Andrews.
1039 Ambulance and paramedics standing by at St Andrew harbour. Coastguard
mobile arranged to
monitor tide conditions first hand.
1110 Coastguard mobile confirms suitable tide (flooding) state for landing.
1118 Casualty vessel alongside St Andrews harbour. Sick man transferred
by chair into care
of waiting (fully briefed) paramedics and thence
by ambulance to hospital.
1213 ALB departed St Andrews bound home port.
1229 Shore helpers paged for 1300 rehouse.
1300 ALB back at slipway.
1327 ALB reported ready for service.

1945 MRSC Forth requested immediate launch to investigate red flares sighted
off Crail.
1953 ALB launched and proceeding to area. Wind began to increase dramatically
from
WSW, reaching Force 7-8 at times.
2005 F/V FORTH HARVESTER has casualty, F/V KAREN (2 pob) in tow, proceeding
Crail
harbour. Coxswain decides to provide escort.
2020 Casualty alongside Crail harbour, ALB returning to base.
2030 ALB escorting F/V VICTOR (2pob) into Anstruther harbour (from about300
YD out).
Vessel was observed to be very low inwater
and making slow progress.
2040 ALB and VICTOR entering Anstruther harbour.
2045 ALB alongside Anstruther harbour pending rehousing.
Whilst enjoying a coffee break in the boathouse prior to rehousing, the crew
became aware (VHF) of yacht SKEEMIN possibly in some difficulty.
DLA/Coxswain decided to maintain standby until the situation resolved.
It didn't. Incident 10/2001 relates.

17:00 ALB returned to boathouse slipway (exercise completed).

1755 ALB launched to proceed to Granton area.
1930 ALB on scene Granton harbour area and deployed to carry out visual and
radar search
initially, and subsequently to illuminate the
scenebysearchlight and give support to ILB
operations.
2040 ALB given area to search for possible survivors.
2044 Established by others no one survived the crash.
2050 ALB released to return to station.
2100 ALB entering Granton harbour for a crew break and meal.
2140 ALB departed Granton harbour for home port but due to tide conditions
a decision was
made to berth at Methil whilst the tide madesufficiently
toenter Pittenweem with a
sufficient safety margin.
0114 ALB entering Pittenweem harbour. Refuelling took place here in viewof
the quantity
used and the fact that the boat would lie overnight.

22:34 MRSC Forth requested launch to investigate flare report, KirkcaldyBay.Several
sightings. Kinghorn lifeboat launching.
Coastguard shore personnel mustering.
Launch agreed by SHS.
22:37 Alert page activated.
22:50 ALB launched to proceed.
23:50 ALB arrived in search area. Launching team stood down.
23:56 ALB commencing search between West Wemyss and Kinghorn in company with
Kinghorn ILB. Coastguard personnel searching
shoreline.Search with radar, and
aided by shorelights and relatively calm
sea,with nightvision equipment. The latter
proved particularly effective. Nothing wasobserved.
00:47 Kinghorn ILB stood down.
01:30 ALB completed search task and stood down by MRSC. Nothing found.
02:10 ALB approaching Pittenweem harbour. Decision subsequently made to lie
afloat here
(due to tide constraints) and rehouseat
0630.
02:55 Crew returned to Anstruther boathouse and stood down.
06:30 Crew and launchers recalled.
07:00 ALB departed Pittenweem bound Anstruther.
07:18 ALB back at slipway.
07:45 ALB rehoused, refuelled and ready for service. MRSC notified accordingly.
